DALLAS, TEXAS, July 2, 2022 - Iranian-American Community of North Texas (IACNT) strongly condemns the presentation of a bill by the Belgian government, paving the way for releasing Assadollah Assadi, a convicted diplomat terrorist of the Iranian regime serving his 20-year sentence in Belgium. This bill is being hastily introduced in Belgium Parliament next week and may be ratified as law.
Many of IACNT members from North Texas attended ‘‘Free Iran 2018–the Alternative’’ summit in Paris which was the target of a foiled bomb plot by the Iranian regime and its Vienna-based diplomat Assadi. He and his three accomplices were later convicted by the Belgian court.
More than 250 bipartisan members of the US Congress showed their support for the Iranian people in H. Res. 118 and resolved that the House of Representatives:
“condemns past and present Iranian state sponsored terrorist attacks against United States citizens and officials, as well as Iranian dissidents, including the Iranian regime’s terror plot against the ‘‘Free Iran 2018–the Alternative’’ gathering in Paris” and also
“calls on relevant United States Government agencies to work with European allies, including those in the Balkans where Iran has expanded its presence, to hold Iran accountable for breaching diplomatic privileges, and to call on nations to prevent the malign activities of the Iranian regime’s diplomatic missions, with the goal of closing them down, including the Iranian Embassy in Albania…”
Our community is outraged by the Belgian government’s betrayal of justice to appease Iran’s despotic hostage-taking regime. Therefore, we call on our Representatives, human rights organizations, and all those in our community and elsewhere seeking freedom and justice, to be our voice and help us to prevent this shameful deal succeed.
