IACNT, November 2nd, 2015- On October 29, 2015, 7:40 PM local time, Camp Liberty, home to the Iranian regime's largest opposition group, the PMOI, was attacked by 80 rockets, resulting in 24 deaths and dozens with critical injuries. This is the fourth rocket attack on the Camp since 2012. Amnesty International reported: “The attack caused widespread destruction as it hit the camp’s electricity generators, while hundreds of residents have been left homeless after at least 200 trailers were destroyed.” It is without a doubt that the Iranian regime is behind this attack, as the Regime considers Camp Liberty and its residents to be its most direct threat to power.
On Sunday, November 1, 2015, the Iranian American Community of North Texas (IACNT) joined a worldwide call to protest and condemn this inhumane act and remember those who lost their lives by gathering at the Dealey Plaza in Dallas. Members of IACNT joined supporters of PMOI around the world to bring attention to this horrific act against residents of Liberty who are Protected Persons. Those gathered called for increased security and protection and end to the suppression of residents. As the Iranian regime influence increases in Iraq, the safety and quality of life for the residents decreases dramatically.
The Iraqi government has a responsibility to protect residents according to international laws. Worldwide, those who have family and friends at Camp Liberty are calling for appropriate medical care, assurance for the safety of loved ones moving forward, items to allow for the repair of damages, and an investigation to identify those responsible for this crime against humanity. The event was concluded by members remembering those who lost their lives as a result of this horrific act.
