IACNT- On Saturday, April 6, Iranian-Americans gathered in downtown Dallas condemning human rights violations in Iran and commemorating the second anniversary of the attack on Camp Ashraf, in which 36 residents were killed, including 8 women and close to 500 residents injured. 3,500 Iranian refugees previously lived in Camp Ashraf, Iraq before being forced to relocate to Camp Liberty, Iraq.
Protesters supported Camp Liberty residents by carrying signs condemning the violations of human rights, marking the second anniversary of the attack on Camp Ashraf in 2011. Some of the signs read, “Stop executions in Iran!”, and “UNHCR must undertake the responsibility for Camp Liberty. Martin Kobler should not interfere.”
“While Kobler is supposed to be responsible for the security of residents in Camp Liberty, he does not do his job well. This became very obvious two months ago when Iraqi forces attacked Camp Liberty, killing 7 residents, and Martin Kobler did nothing in response. He is not a responsible representative of the United Nations.”, explained one of the protesters to a group of bystanders interested in the cause of protest.
In this gathering, a statement was read and attendants showed their respects to martyrs of the attack on Camp Ashraf two years ago by placing flowers next to their pictures.
